  12. We are currently using 1-800 dialup to let our field engineers (FEs) access our
  13. service database. The FEs use 14.4 analog modems to access a bank of 14.4 
  14. analog modems at our corporate site. Our tests show that the once the call
  15. connects, it takes about 20 seconds for the modems to negotiate before the
  16. login procedure can take place.

  18. I am looking at replacing our modem bank at the corporate site with digital
  19. modems accessed directly through a T1. Will that significantly lower the 
  20. modem negotiation time? Any one have figures on this? Thanks.
